About this award
Books, big dreams and backbone. Student of the Year honors learners who lead, create, serve and push through challenges. Students from high school, college, trade school and adult learning bring different experiences; the approved IGNICON Founder Launch Series completion requirement still applies.
Who can enter?
Learners who complete all five IGNICON Founder Launch Series courses
Nominations may be submitted after course completion; a course record or certificate may be requested
A parent or guardian must be involved in any nomination for a learner under 18
What did they accomplish?
Course completion records for all five Founder Launch Series courses
A concrete example of how the learner applied what they learned
What changed as a result, and who benefited
Supporting work samples, feedback or results the learner has permission to share
Completing the courses makes a learner eligible to be nominated; it does not guarantee selection. The award remains subject to its published criteria.
Make their story count

Students with strong academic growth or achievement
Leaders of clubs, teams or student groups
Students who serve their school or community

Tips for a strong nomination
Look beyond grades. Growth, grit and leadership matter as much as GPA.
Share a defining moment. One great story beats a long list.
Add a voice. Include a teacher, coach or classmate quote with permission.
Show impact. Who benefited from what this student did?
Look ahead. What are their goals, and how does this fit?
Did you know?
Real-world inspiration
Louis Braille developed his reading and writing system while he was still a young student. His work is a reminder that a learner’s contribution can reach far beyond the classroom.
Historical inspiration, not an IGNICON honoree or endorsement.
Where opportunity is growing
Careers on the rise for students: data and AI, healthcare, skilled trades, cybersecurity and green energy jobs.
Explore possibilities, build practical skills and look for ways to put your strengths to work. These examples are not job or income guarantees.
Night Classes, Bright Future
An imagined example, not an actual IGNICON nominee, finalist or winner.
Imagine a single dad named Marcus who works days at a warehouse and takes night classes in nursing. He studies on his lunch break and quizzes himself while his kids do homework beside him. He tutors classmates who are struggling. When he graduates, three of them graduate with him. That’s Student of the Year energy.
Your questions, answered
Who counts as a student?
High school, college, trade school and adult learners may be considered, subject to the Official Rules and completion of all five IGNICON Founder Launch Series courses. Junior IGNICON offers a separate guardian-managed route for younger achievers.
Do grades matter most?
No. Judges apply the published 100-point merit rubric and consider the nominee’s work, growth and impact.
Can students nominate themselves?
Yes, if 18 or older. All participation involving a minor is managed by a parent or guardian.
Can teachers nominate?
Teachers can recommend students. If the nominee is under 18, a parent or legal guardian must manage participation and permissions.

What judges look for
A 100-point rubric applied by an independent panel.
01
Impact
30pts
The difference the work has made.
Judges weigh the real difference the work has made: who benefited, how much changed, and how lasting that change is. Scale matters less than clear, credible outcomes.
Useful evidence
Before-and-after figures or outcomes
Testimonials from people served
Press, reports or third-party recognition
02
Innovation
25pts
Original thinking and meaningful improvement.
Original thinking that meaningfully improves on what came before. Judges look for a new approach, a smarter process, or a fresh answer to a familiar problem.
Useful evidence
What was new and why it mattered
Prototypes, launches or patents
Comparison with the usual approach
03
Leadership
20pts
How the entrant has led and inspired others.
How the entrant led, inspired and developed others. Judges value decisions under pressure, people brought along, and leadership shown with or without a title.
Useful evidence
Teams built, mentored or rallied
Hard decisions and their results
Endorsements from colleagues
04
Results and growth
15pts
Evidence of achievement and development.
Measurable achievement and development over time. Judges look for progress against goals and honest lessons learned along the way.
Useful evidence
Milestones, growth or revenue trends
Goals set and goals met
Skills, credentials or capacity gained
05
Community and purpose
10pts
Contribution to people and purpose.
Contribution beyond the entrant: to people, causes and the wider field. Judges look for purpose that shows up in action, not just in a mission statement.
Useful evidence
Volunteer, giving or outreach work
Partnerships with local groups
Access or opportunity created for others
Sharing is optional and never affects judging. Celebrate your nominee without changing their score. Social sharing, likes, votes and purchases of courses or other products do not count toward judged scores. People’s Pick is separate honorary recognition and carries no cash prize.
Include the nominee’s name and award category in your post. For Junior entries, only a parent or guardian may choose to share; the child does not need a social-media account. This is separate from written permission for IGNICON to publish a Junior profile or photo.
Sharing is optional and never affects judging. People’s Pick votes, likes, followers and post views do not affect the judges’ score.
